Poseidon is the cat of Rita Santos in Mako Mermaids. He used to be feared greatly by the mermaids because they were new to land and were unaware of what he was, but later find out that he is nothing to fear over and accept him. The cat later leads Nixie, Lyla and Sirena to Rita's secret mermaid cave which is hidden in her office.
Poseidon is an exotic male long hair chinchilla. He is Rita's closest friend and companion, guarding her house and possessions and also his very own secret.

- Poseidon is portrayed by a cat actor named Monte.
- The cast says that they use a fake cat for some scenes.
- Poseidon is also the name of the Greek god of the sea in Greek mythology, and since Rita is a mermaid, this makes it very likely that Poseidon and, if not, Greek mythology, in general, is true in the Mako Mermaids universe.
- Sirena, Mimmi and Weilan are affectionate to Poseidon while the other girls tolerate him, aside from Ondina who is disgusted by him.
